Effect of Air Purification Systems on Particulate Matter and Airborne Bacteria in Public Buses

The indoor air quality in public transport systems is a major concern South Korea. Within this context, we investigated the effect of purification on intercity buses, one most popular options Air purifiers were custom designed and equipped with high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filters to remove matter ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) airborne bacteria. To investigate effectiveness systems, compared concentrations (PM2.5 PM10), bacteria, carbon dioxide (CO2) six buses (three three without) along bus routes (BUS1, BUS2, BUS3) Gyeonggi Province, Korea, between 6 April 4 May 2021. Compared without purification, those showed 34–60% 25–61% lower average PM2.5 PM10, respectively. In addition, had 24–78% bacteria (when measured after 30 min initial purification).
